Interesting talks.

In this winter, Japanese famous camera companies, Nikon, Canon, Sony and Olympus released new digital SLR cameras. Especially, Nikon D3 is special, because we can shoot at ISO 3200 without few grains by D3.

Of couse, it costs so expensive for most people. But in near future, its technology will come down to the consumer products, and we can take pictures even at night's street much more easily than ever. We will come across soon, the images we have never seen.

Then, why do you/I still use films? The quality of ink-jet printers has reached already high. The prints from them are sometimes better than "orthodox" ones. The color of digital images is gradually getting better, and in future it can be superior to that of films.

Now I use films because I am afraid that I loose the digital images by accident, for example when I travel around for more than 1 month. When I carry the digital SLR camera, I have to carry the laptop PC or some portable HDD in my baggage in order to stock images. I must be careful all ways to keep it not shake or fall down from the desk. But the problem will be solved. The price of HDD getting cheaper these days, so we can carry a few of small ones anywhere.

Then, why do we still use films?

結婚制度を疑う

ヤフー知恵袋には浮気不倫がばれたとか離婚しようかしまいかとかいう相談が沢山あって、それに対する道徳観念的な助言も数多あふれている。浮気不倫は厳密にいえば犯罪ではなく、いわんや離婚をや、なんだけれども、結婚制度は民放で貞操義務を定められており、配偶者以外の男女と性交渉を持つと他方が慰謝料請求が出来るというのが結婚制度。ちなみに、離婚は両者の合意の元でしか成立しない。

一般に結婚したい、という人達は、それらをどれくらい理解して納得した上で「結婚したい！」と思っているのだろうかなー、思ってないから結婚後のトラブルを招いたり、隠れてこそこそ浮気に走ったりしてんだよなーと思って、常々くだらないと思っているのだけれど、フランスには結婚とは少し違う「パクス」というのがあるらしい。準結婚制度とでも呼べば言いそうな。

同性愛者であってもパクスは可能であり、その数は2006年には年間約８万組。対する従来の結婚が27万組なので、比率を見ても結構な割合だと思って差し支えないんじゃないかと思う。パクスには結婚と違って貞操義務はなく、また解消の際も両者の合意ではなく一方の意思のみで解消出来るそうな。

一方、日本でも最近事実婚が増えて来ているが、事実婚と結婚ではどれくらいの差が出るかと言うと、結婚をした際に受けられる制度的な保護の殆どが受けられないため、実質損をすることが多い。

フランスのパクスはこの事実婚を制度的に保護する制度と考えても良いと思う。

制度的にも慣習的にも「家」を単位に社会を構成させてきた日本だが、個人の人生観が多様化する現代において色んな面で齟齬が生じている中で、人格に結びついたトラブルを引き起こしやすい結婚という制度が最も見直されるべきところじゃないかと思うのだけれど、それでもまだまだ当たり前に「結婚は良い！」みたいな風潮が後を絶たないのは残念な傾向だと思っている。極端な話、「いつ結婚するのー？」みたいな前時代的な質問は好い加減セクハラとして裁判で敗訴出来るくらいになっても良いのじゃないかなー。

あと結婚するなら、制度を理解した上でやらないと、バカを見ると思う。当然のことを繰り返すが、恋愛は感情であっても、結婚は制度。既婚者が「他に恋人がいるんだ」と言うのは、ただのだらしないルール違反である。

そもそもルールを守れないのであれば結婚をしなきゃ良いし、もしくは離婚をすれば良い。融通が利かない旧来の制度に何故すがるのだろう。まあ、他に子育て等をする場合を保護するような代替する制度が無いからだろうけど。でもパクスみたいなのは日本じゃしばらく出来ないよなー。

個人的にはもう一つ、夫婦別姓制度が出来てない時点で結婚はかなりイヤ。相手に自分の姓になって欲しくないし、自分の姓が変わるのもイヤだ。

Nudists in Japan

Though I am not a nudist (maybe :p), I have some interests in nudism. There are few nudist beach in Japan, but there are nudists and they call each other with internet. Then they often visit outdoor bath which often located in the mountains, and take the bath together without any clothes. Of course, we usually take the spa without clothes, but men and women rarely enter the same, or prohibited to do so. So they look for the spas in the deep mountains and enjoy their nudism. I don't know well about other countries' nudists, but this is Japanese style of nudism.

※フィルムスキャニングをする場合、３の印刷サイズと解像度の関係が役立つ。原稿が35mmフィルムならば、Ａ３で印刷するならば3200dpiでスキャニングすれば画像品質は良好なものが得られるとのこと（4800dpiでＡ３ノビ？＋αか）。ちなみに、その35mmフィルムを3200dpi、24bitカラー（各色８bit）でスキャニングした場合、データ容量は約40MBに達する。これが色調整に適した48bitカラーになると更に膨れ上がるわけ。デジタルカメラで同等の解像度の画像と比べて、これほどまでに大きな容量になるのだろう（まだ調べていない）。

脳科学のイベント以降、視覚認知についての本を、私もmもそれぞれ読んでいる。新たな知見を多く得ている。

ところで、デジタルカメラの解像度が年々大きくなっているが、これはつまり、原理的に言えば、高解像度を突き詰めると、毛穴どころではなく顕微鏡のレベルで皮膚細胞まで見えるようになる、という方向性を意味する。さらに、プリント技術が伴うことで、実物の人間と等倍のプリントをルーペで覗くと実際の人体をルーペで見るのと近い感覚が得られる様な体験が出来るということ（あくまで理論上の話）。

人間が目を使って認識出来ることの際を考えられるという点で、高解像度化は面白い反面、ルーペや顕微鏡を使って写真の一部を見ると言うことになるのは、今のところナンセンスだという印象がある。高解像度のデータを等倍でプリントして、そのサイズが例えば岡本太郎の「明日の神話」くらいのサイズになったとして、その解像度は人間の感覚に何をもたらすのか。

そして、その「写真」（括弧を付けたくなる…）は、横位置では見られるけど、縦位置のものは見られない、みたいな不思議な状況が生まれる。人間の目が横に付いていることや、人間が地面に対して基本的には水平にしか移動出来ないということを、再考する様な写真になりそうなものが実際最近作られつつあるのも興味深い反面で、限界は予想出来そうな気もする。グルスキーの実物のプリント作品でさえ、縦にしたらどう見て良いか分からんのじゃないか。

例えば、飛行機に乗らないと見られないナスカの地上絵みたいな写真とかは、一度だけ誰かが作ったらもうあとは、みんな作ろうとは思わんだろうしなー。

脳科学のことは全然知らないのだけれど、脳が何たらって議論が巷に氾濫していて、興味が湧く反面で本当かよ！？と疑いを持つことも多いのだけど、如何せん情報へのアクセスの仕方が分からない。何から調べて良いか分からなかった。その中で、日本における脳科学の最先端の研究をしている同研究所のシンポジウムとあって、期待して向かう。

脳科学の権威と言われる甘利先生の話を特に期待していたが、全体を通して強烈に勉強になった。詳細までノートに記録したのだけれど、割愛。

無理して少し感想を。

今日の話をふまえて自分に必要な事柄だけ考えてみる。写真における今後の大きな発展があるとすれば、テクノロジーの発展と人間自身の探求だと考えていた。前者を外向きの発展、後者を内向きの発展と思っていたのだけれど、しかし人間自身の探求もまたテクノロジーによって解明される部分があるのだから、それを外と内と呼ぶのはちょっと無理があるかもなあと感じる。けれど、「人が人を知る」ということを目的とする発展から生まれる表現は、デジタルカメラ技術の発展から生まれる表現とは質的に違う。昨今の写真表現はより一意的な「ビジュアルアート」というものが多いのだが、実際には「人が人を知る」という方向にもアラーキーのような非科学的な（？）人間を題材とした表現から、更に進めるだけの深さがあるはずである。私自身をして、そこを丁寧に紐解いて行くために、ただ写真技術のみを学ぶ以上のアプローチで表現していくことを考えていかなければと思う。改めて、より人間について知りたいし、見たいと思う。そのために、脳科学の正しい知識を学ぶことは何かしら重要な知見、または写真における重要な閃きが得られるのではないかなと思った。（つまり、巷の間違ったものフライングしたもの過大評価されたものには気をつけないといけない。）

また、パネルディスカッションで、雑談的に始まった「日本の子供は何歳から英語教育を始めるべきか」という議論を含めて、言語の話も外国語学習者でもある私には興味深かった。要は、「子供に関しては早ければ早いほど良い」というのが基本なんだと思う。だとすれば遅くから始める学習はどのように考えれば良いか。

Some people imagine Middle East is dangerous everywhere, but it is wrong. There is one of the safest area with low percentage of crime in the world except for Iraq, Palestine and Israel. Iran is also safe in most main cities for both residents and travellers. So I am amased by this kidnap.

※学生の頃、部屋にバムのポスターを貼ってたくらい行きたいところだ。前回イランに行った時は日数が足りず行けなくて、その後同地方で大規模な地震があり、遺跡が崩壊した時はショックだった。

中東というとパレスチナやイラクを想像し、治安の悪い地域と言う風に思う人がいるかも知れないが、実際はそれらを除けば中東とは世界でも特に治安の良い地域である。イランも治安が悪くなったとは言っても、今回のようなことは主要な都市部では考えられない事件だと思う。だからこそ今回の事件には驚く。勿論前例が起きていたため避けるに越したことは無い、という意見はあっても当然。だが、この記事について書いている少なくない方々が「自己責任」の言葉を被害者に押し付けているのには首を傾げる。関係者でない限り、そのようなことを言う権利は無いだろう。迷惑をかけられてない人間がことさら迷惑ぶる最近の流行に強い疑問を感じる。大概の人が赤の他人である。

とまれ、被害者の無事を心から祈ります。イランの治安回復も。

あと、関係者、男性の情報ばらすんじゃねーよ。

※写真とは全く関係無いのですが、気になってることとして。

30日にウクライナで議会選挙があって、ようやく今日開票の結果が出た。僅差で親欧米派（という分類は安易過ぎるのだが）と呼ばれる、現大統領＋カリスマ女政治家ティモシェンコブロックの勝利、となったらしい。

一方で、得票率では現首相率いる親ロシア派政党が第一政党となり、中央・東部を中心とした不満への対応が課題にはなるだろう。

しかし、大統領と内閣が対立して混乱していた内政がひとまず落ち着くことに加えて、私の考えではロシア追随は将来的に不利益、痛みを伴ってでもロシアへの依存状態は弱め続けなければいけないと思うので、今回の選挙結果は良かったと思う。OSCEも今回の選挙は公正だったと言ってるし。

ちょっと目をそらすと、ウクライナ共産党の得票率は５％。これを多いと見るか少ないと見るかは難しいところだけれど、お隣のロシアで共産党が議席の10%を確保し第二政党の地位を保っているのと比べれば、共産主義への回帰的なムードは低いと言える（ちなみにロシア第一政党はプーチンの政党で30%超）。

次期内閣でもNATO、EU統合という目標は継続されるだろうけれど、当面実現がしないことも変わらず、だからといってロシアに寄り添うと将来的なデメリットが大きい。そのため、二項対立的に欧米かロシアかと言うのはあくまで選挙でのレトリックとして終わらせ、実際の政治では不満に対処しつつ、多角的な発展を試みる必要がある。

I wrote a word Timbuktu in this update. Anyway, I have dreamed to travel to Timbktu for long and actually I sometimes google about air tickets to Mali or information of hotels there. Unfortunately, it is far between Tokyo and Timbktu, and I have to fly there via Russian and France, if I want to make the dream come true.

Today, I found a line "All the way to Timbktu" (Link). That means "some far away imaginary place", though it does exist even now. Five hundred years ago Timbktu was called "Golden City", but its prosperity vanished in the dessert. Someday I want to visit there.

I watched the new Evangelion movie today.

It was just not good.

何がどうとか、細かい理由はネタバレするから公開終わるまで書かないけど、端的に言って全然ダメ。展開が破綻してる。前半なんて寧ろイライラして観ながら眉間に力みが入ってしまった。効果はあくまで効果。メカヲタと綾波ファンだけグッズ買って萌えてろって感じ。

Last night, I had dinner with an old girlfriend of our university days. It was about 7 years ago that I often talked with her, and 4 years have passed since we last met. 2 hours we had good chiken dishes and drunk beer and shochu with oyuwari. We talked about many thing in order to let our hearts come closer as they were before, but we couldn't suceed enough because of the lack of time. Of course, I was happy to see her again, she become more beautiful and grow. However, the difficulty just lay in our lack of knowledge about each 7 years' experiences. I got drunk a bit, and slept more deeply than usual.

I have few things to write here these days... I met two friends and drank together tonight. One is a British from Hong Kong, and I asked a question, "In Kantonease, is there a case that a person says his/her own name instead of "I". He answered "never".

Among some japanese women and some children, there is such a case. For example, a lady, whose name is Keiko, use it as the first person.

I renamed my daily photo work "Photo Drama" to "Photo Gikyoku", in order to put some originality on it. "Gikyoku" means "drama" or "drama script" in Japanese, and you know, "Gikyolog" is "Gikyoku's log".

中平は、私の母校と同じ東京外国語大学スペイン語科を出ている。正直、写真を撮り始めてしばらく経つまで全然興味がなく、母校を同じくすることも知らなかったが、なんだかんだと知識が増えてきた結果、思っていることがある。

中平は、自ら望んで失語症になろうとしたんじゃないかと思う。プロヴォーク時代の「あれぶれぼけ」は、とても意識的な脈絡の中での変化であり、ロシア・アヴァンギャルドの流れを汲んだ1968年の昭和アヴァンギャルドの潮流の一つだと思う。寺山修司とか唐十郎とかの時代。意識的に過去の手法を否定するやり方は、意識的に過去を肯定する方法と、同じ線上にある論理で培われていると気付いて、結局、言語をベースにした論理の中でしかものを見ることが出来なくなっている自分に気付いて、言葉と記憶を欲したのではないかと思う。外国語学習というものが、言語による思考をより堅牢なものにするという、私の実感が根拠なので、信憑性には乏しいが、割とそうじゃないかという確信はある。多分、だから彼は酒を飲んだのだろう。そうする以外に、考えることをやめられなかったのだろう。そして、記憶と言語を無くした（と思い込んだ）彼が、まっさらな状態（のつもり）で在るものを在るままに撮るという、植物図鑑以降の写真術に繋がっているのだと思う。

言語による思考をやめるのは、かなり訓練が必要なことだ。写真にある言葉が写っていた場合、例えばそこに知った言語が写っていれば（あなたなら日本語）、その言葉の意味を意識せず文字の形のみを先に認識するのは不可能に近い。一方、パフラヴィー語で書かれた文章を形より先に意味を認識することも不可能に近い（あなたも私も）。これは極端な例だが、言語を知った人間が、ヴィジュアルだけでのみイメージを頭に入れたいというのは幻想かもしれない。しかし、それを中平はできうる限り求めたのじゃないか。まず、頭の中から言語を消すこと。そして、消し方を酒の他に知らなかったのだろう。同じ言語学習者としてそのように想像している。

あと、植物図鑑と言うならば、水中に入って魚と珊瑚礁と昆布を撮っていただくことで、一貫した論理を見たい。そうでもなければ、彼の作品自体には興味が持てそうにない。

When I was a junior high-school boy (15 y.o), I found Evangelion on TV, and from then I watched the programs over and over again. I'm sure I was impressed much then, and I know now I was also an Otaku. Over a decade has passed. New story will come soon at theaters.

Bookbinding

Recently, bookbinding is becoming popular among photographers in Japan. It is because the qualities of home printers, digital cameras, scanners and papers for inkjet printers. Their costs are decreasing, and the performance increasing. By chance, I got some good printer and scanner with low prices, I tried them (scanned some images from print films and printed it by the printer), and the result was greater than I had imagined. It is should be said that the technology of them was developed much.

Then, there are many people who started to make their own photo books. When you finish printing out the images, you have only to bind them. Binding itself is easy. But, therefore, they look for their original appearances. They try many kinds of papers, or some uses clothes, or so on. You can find many home-made photo books of contest prizewinners on Epson photo contests website. (Epson's archives) Some magazines showed the ways of home bookbinding this month.

Digital cameras doesn't bring about a paradigm shift in serious photography.

Some people says that the advent of the digital camera is something like a paradigm shift in photography, however, in my opinion, that was a big foolish mistake. It is easy to understand that people who adhere to digital description are same with B&W enthusiasts. The ways of representation with internet are interesting, but its fun is just due to the internet itself and the presence of digital date, and PC. Telling the truth, the daily updates of photographs doesn't interest me so much. In addition, it doesn't matter at all which cameras photographers use, digital or analogue. It's just a change of tools, not a paradigm shift. Because we cannot find anything new on the net which we have never seen before. The old, don't exaggerate, or that will blindfold the true arrivals.

Cosina produces ZK Planar T* for Pentax.

Cosina announced they will launch the sale of ZK Planar lenses for Pentax KA mount. Planar T* 1.4/50 ZK & Planar T* 1.4/85 ZK, in this summer.

However, I doubt their qualities. They say the lenses fit both film cameras and those of digital, but if it suits digital, would they need certain different technology from that of old Carl Zeiss lenses? They may be brandishing with the name, or are new comers just great in other points? Nmm... indeed, I don't have a Pentax.

Minilab systems

Today I had a chance to compare Noritsu's digital minilab system with that of old Agfa's analog. The results were noticeable, so I will show some samples. Above is digital, below analog, and the photos are all mine for next "Photo Drama's" update.

It is not always so important to manage color balances of prints. However, recently we cab scarcely find analog minilab systems in towns of Tokyo, though it is often said that the analog exposures make better prints with color negative films. The differences were interesting. Analog minilab showed films' performance more exactly on prints than digital's.
